RowLA: Creating a Waterway to College
RowLA is a non-profit organization which combines fitness training and intensive rowing activities with academic tutoring in support of girls in the city of Los Angeles, enabling them to improve their health and nutrition, develop self-confidence and discipline and become student-athletes prepared for life's challenges ahead.
Rowing offers excellent athletic training while providing the lessons of perseverance, dedication, hard work, courage and teamwork to life events off the water.
Developing strong relationships with positive role models such as the coaches, tutors, trainers and female college athletes provides numerous advantages to these young women. It fosters their growth towards becoming self-confident college student athletes and leaders.
There are approximately 2000 college rowing scholarships available to high school seniors. LA's minority and at risk high school girls have historically been missing from this sport due to lack of access. The goal of RowLA is to provide these young women with the chance to avail themselves of these scholarship and recruitment opportunities.
